Hudson Structured Capital Management Ltd., the insurance-linked securities (ILS), reinsurance- and transportation- focused investment manager, has increased its reinsurance focused assets under management by roughly 15% over the first-half of the year, to reach a new milestone at $3 billion.
Firm-wide, including Hudson Structured’s transportation related investments strategy, commitments and assets under management now sit at more than $3.3 billion.
When we last remarked on reinsurance and ILS asset growth at Hudson Structured, the investment manager had reached around $2.6 billion of AuM in December 2020.
Steady growth in assets has continued through 2021 so far, helping the manager reach this new milestone of $3 billion of reinsurance and ILS assets under management.
Hudson Structured, which undertakes its reinsurance investment operations as HSCM Bermuda, was launched and began allocating to the ILS market in 2016, after being established by ex-Goldman Sachs structured finance head Michael Millette.
The investment manager has built out a range of insurance and reinsurance related investment strategies over the last few years, and was one of the few managers in ILS to experience steady growth right the way through a period when others have stalled, or even shrunk, in terms of their assets under management.
Hudson Structured is helped by having a particularly diversified approach to investing in reinsurance, as it targets returns from across the market chain and company balance-sheet, allocating capital across a wide range of lines of insurance business, structures and investment opportunities, so more than just natural catastrophe risks.
The manager has expertise across multiple lines of insurance and reinsurance business, from property, to specialty lines, legacy or run-off and even life risks, while at the same time having built out a strong and growing franchise as a specialist insurtech investor and reinsurance partner.
Michael Millette, Founder and Managing Partner, told Artemis, “We are excited to have been given the opportunity to put capital to work in this environment. The pandemic, the burgeoning insurtech sector, a difficult catastrophe environment, and the maturing ILS fund universe each continue to disrupt re/insurance markets.
“We believe we are well positioned to best take advantage of investment opportunities across lines of business and up and down the capital structure.”
