Hiscox Re & ILS, the international reinsurance and insurance-linked securities (ILS) arm of the global Hiscox Group, has announced the hiring of Marlon Williams in Bermuda as a senior underwriter of international property catastrophe risks.
Williams was most recently a property catastrophe reinsurance underwriter at Markel Corporation and so the timing of the move could be linked to Markel’s decision to shutter its own property cat reinsurance unit and place all catastrophe risk underwriting under its ILS unit Nephila Capital.
Williams had spent almost eight years working at Markel, starting as a catastrophe analyst and working his way up to SVP and International Property Cat Underwriter.
Prior to his time at Markel, Williams worked as a catastrophe analyst at Alterra Capital Holdings, a re/insurance company which Markel acquired in 2013.
He also spent some time in his early career working in alternative risk transfer at the Alea Group in Bermuda.
A seasoned property catastrophe underwriting professional, Williams joins Hiscox Re & ILS as Senior Underwriter, International Property Cat.
Commenting on the hire, Daniel Vestergren, Chair of International for Hiscox Re & ILS said, “We are excited to welcome Marlon to the team. His talent and international experience will enhance the already strong team we have at Hiscox.”
