Hamilton launches casualty reinsurance sidecar with Sixth Street capital and asset strategy

Hamilton Insurance Group, Ltd., a Bermuda based specialty insurance and reinsurance company, has announced the launch of its first casualty reinsurance sidecar with a plan to cede around $300 million of premium to it over the multi-year duration of structure and investment firm Sixth Street as the provider of capital and an asset strategy to the arrangement.

hamilton-logoHamilton Insurance Group is utilising its long-standing Ada Re, Ltd. third-party capital platform to launch its first venture into casualty insurance-linked securities.

The company said that the Ada Re casualty reinsurance sidecar will provide dedicated underwriting capacity to support its casualty reinsurance portfolio over a multi-year period.

Ceded premium over the duration of the structure is projected to be around the $300 million mark and this marks a meaningful expansion of Hamilton’s existing third-party capital business under Ada Re, which already houses collateralized reinsurance arrangements that drive fee income for the company.

Hamilton said that it has promoted Tristan Latarche to Senior Vice President of Hamilton ILS, effective April 1st 2026.

Latarche will report to Tim Duffin, Group Chief Underwriting Officer of Hamilton and he will be tasked with leading ongoing development and execution of Hamilton’s third-party capital strategy, with the re/insurer looking to scale its platform in size and sophistication.

“We are extremely pleased to announce that we have successfully established our first casualty reinsurance sidecar,” commented Duffin. “This sidecar enhances our ability to support casualty reinsurance underwriting through scalable and efficient capital solutions, supports our disciplined growth strategy, and provides Hamilton with an additional source of fee income.

“Tristan’s promotion further strengthens our leadership bench as we continue to develop our third-party capital capabilities over the long term.”

Latarche joined Hamilton in September 2024 as Vice President, Portfolio Manager to support the third-party capital strategy, prior to which he held various underwriting and actuarial roles at Hiscox Re in London.

The backing of global investment firm Sixth Street brings a partner into the mix with a strong background in the insurance and reinsurance industry, both in capital provision and in its asset management capabilities.

Aon Securities LLC served as the sole structuring agent and placement agent for the casualty reinsurance sidecar transaction for Hamilton, while Willkie Farr & Gallagher LLP and Carey Olsen Bermuda Limited served as legal counsels.

Hamilton sees the launch of its first casualty reinsurance sidecar as an expansion of its activities under Ada Re, to extend on the high-return collateralized property catastrophe reinsurance and retrocessional coverage it provides, that is distinct to and complements its own balance-sheet underwriting.

Hamilton also said that, “Ada Re has developed into a core component of Hamilton’s third-party capital strategy and serves as an increasingly meaningful contributor to Hamilton’s fee-based earnings.”
