Global reinsurance broker Guy Carpenter has promoted Peter Askew to President and CEO of its Canadian operations, after Donald Callahan stepped down from the positions.
Askew has worked at Guy Carpenter for almost three years this time around, but had previously spent a seven year stint at the reinsurance broker, all based in Toronto, Canada.
As President and CEO, of Guy Carpenter’s Canadian business, Askew will be tasked with driving continued success in Canada for the broker, across both Toronto and Montreal offices.
Part of this will be a focus on further expanding the depth and scope of reinsurance solutions available to Canadian insurance providers, to match their ever-evolving needs.
Callahan has stepped down from the positions after 20 years, but will continue to support Askew as he will remain with Guy Carpenter in Canada, working closely with its clients.
Askew has more than 25 years of experience in the Canadian insurance and reinsurance market.
His career began with Benfield where he spent a decade, before moving onto Guy Carpenter for seven years. Askew then spent a year and a half with QBE Insurance as its Canadian Director, before returning to the reinsurance broking side with Guy Carpenter as a Managing Director.
John Trace, CEO, North America, commented on the news, “I am delighted that Peter has taken the helm of our Canadian operations and that Don will continue to contribute to the success of our clients. Guy Carpenter’s long-term commitment to maintaining a deep talent pool is clearly evidenced by Peter’s promotion. His decades of local market knowledge and understanding of the unique demands of our clients will ensure that our Canadian operations continue to go from strength to strength.”
