Global reinsurance broker Guy Carpenter has announced the hiring of James Johns from Willis Re and Joshua O’Donoghue from Aon, who both join the brokers London non-marine specialty team, bringing additional property catastrophe and retrocession expertise.
James Johns has been appointed as Managing Director, effective August 12th 2021, and Joshua O’Donoghue as Senior Vice President, effective November 8th 2021, both within the Guy Carpenter Non-Marine Specialty division in London.
Johns will have lead broker and account executive responsibility, with a specialism in providing property risk and catastrophe reinsurance solutions to a broad range of direct and facultative clients. He will report to Stephen Firmin, Managing Director, Non-Marine Specialty, Guy Carpenter.
O’Donoghue takes a senior broker and account executive role, focused on property retrocession, as well as direct and facultative reinsurance placements. He will report to Roland Morse, Managing Director, Non-Marine Specialty, Guy Carpenter.
Johns most recently worked at Willis Re as an Executive Director focusing on London Market property reinsurance. Over a 30-year career he gained both broking and underwriting experience and was also Global Head of Property at both Talbot Syndicate and Marsh UK, where he worked for 22 years.
O’Donoghue was most recently a Non-Marine Retrocession Broker at Aon, before which he worked as a US Property Reinsurance broker at Willis Re. With experience in both the production and placement of property-specific business, he has worked with a wide range of client companies in London and Bermuda.
