Fermat Capital Management hits milestone $10bn cat bond and ILS assets managed

Fermat Capital Management, the specialist catastrophe bond and insurance-linked securities (ILS) investment manager, reached a new milestone in terms of cat bond and ILS assets under management at the end of 2024, surpassing the $10 billion level for the first time.

fermat-capital-management-logoImpressively, Fermat Capital Management grew its ILS assets under management (AUM) by around $500 million over the course of the second-half of 2024, representing a roughly 5.3% increase in that six month period.

With $10.11 billion of cat bond and ILS assets under management (AUM) as of December 31st 2024, this puts Fermat Capital Management at the top of Artemis’ directory of insurance-linked securities (ILS) fund managers.

As well as inflows from investors looking to access its catastrophe bond and other insurance-linked strategies (ILS), Fermat will also have benefited from accumulated and retained earnings across its funds, as the cat bond and ILS sector delivered strong returns in 2024.

Fermat has been building out its ILS fund offering in recent years, expanding into new classes of insurance and reinsurance business as well.

Notably, the investment manager launched a Fermat branded UCITS catastrophe bond fund in 2024, which we reported recently had expanded from its launch to $751 million in assets by the end of last year.

Fermat Capital Management also established its casualty insurance-linked securities (ILS) business in 2024, as the company that has historically been better-known for its natural catastrophe bond focus expanded its range of insurance-linked investment offerings.

Fermat Capital Management Co-Founder and Managing Director John Seo will moderate a discussion on the casualty ILS investment opportunity at our upcoming New York conference ILS NYC 2025 on February 7th.

With now around $10.11 billion of cat bond and ILS assets under management, Fermat is continuing to expand on its range of fund offerings and developing direct investor relationships.

Just last week, the ILS manager announced a new range of commingled ILS strategies that are already supporting around $2 billion in assets, as well as two key hires to its global investor relations team.

The $10 billion of ILS assets milestone is a notable one for Fermat, although it’s important to also add that assets can ebb and flow with valuations of positions. So, with ongoing events such as the California wildfires affecting certain catastrophe bonds, the total could fluctuate around this time.

But, with a growing ILS investment offering and platform, Fermat Capital Management appears well-positioned to continue expanding over the coming year, as demand for ILS capital continues to rise across the insurance and reinsurance industry, while investor interest in the ILS asset class is similarly increasing.
