Elementum Advisors, LLC, the insurance-linked securities (ILS) investment fund manager and collateralised reinsurance underwriter, has announced the hire of a new Chief Technology Officer, Douglas Duncan.
Duncan has joined the Elementum Advisors senior team and is based in the firm’s Chicago headquarters.
He will take responsibility for Elementum’s overall IT program and strategy, including its technology infrastructure, information security, development of proprietary applications, and systems architecture and integration.
“Doug brings a deep business and technology background to the firm with significant achievements designing and executing plans that bring the technology function to the next level,” Mike France, Managing Partner & CFO at Elementum explained.
France’s comments also highlight the importance of technology in the ILS investment management space, something we anticipate increasing in priority for companies as they look to build-out best-in-class systems to help them do business more effectively and efficiently

As ILS fund managers look to differentiate, IT capabilities are going to come under increasing scrutiny from institutional investors, making this an area of increasing focus for the industry, we believe.

Duncan has global technology leadership experience going back to 2010, with his most recent role having been at Columbia Insurance Group (CIG) as Chief Information Officer with responsibility for all technology activities.
Before that, Duncan held positions with the Corporate Solutions division of Swiss Reinsurance, General Electric Insurance Solutions, and the US Federal Highway Administration.
