US primary insurer The Hanover Insurance Group, Inc. has returned to the catastrophe bond market for what will be its third time, but this $150 million Commonwealth Re Ltd. (Series 2025-1) issuance is its first to target multi-peril reinsurance protection, Artemis understands.

Allstate has started the 2025 annual risk period for the aggregate reinsurance provided by some of its catastrophe bonds with a $594 million pre-tax catastrophe loss burden, driven by 11 severe weather events during the month of April.

As May issuance continues to build, including the latest new catastrophe bond issues that are settling today, Artemis’ data on cat bond market issuance has now exceeded the previous record for the first-half of the year, with almost $12.64 billion of tracked deals completed so far in 2025.

Siena Capital Group, LLC, a private investment office with a focus on special situations and that counts former Gallagher Securities trading and distribution specialist Jack Stone as a Partner, is targeting the catastrophe bond and insurance-linked securities (ILS) market with a plan to launch a daily pricing platform later this year.

Florida-headquartered Slide Insurance Company has now lifted its catastrophe bond supported, multi-year reinsurance to $660 million for the coming hurricane season, after its largest cat bond sponsorship so far with the $250 million Purple Re Ltd. (Series 2025-1) transaction, its CEO Bruce Lucas has highlighted.

An innovative new catastrophe bond has now secured its targeted $100 million of reinsurance limit, with the notes of the Liongate Re DAC cat bond now priced to provide both Japanese earthquake cover on an indemnity basis and European earthquake cover on a parametric trigger basis.

Kingstone Companies, the New York and northeast US focused insurer, has raised ambitions for its debut catastrophe bond sponsorship, with now up to $125 million of named storm reinsurance protection being sought from its debut 1886 Re Ltd. (Series 2025-1) issuance, Artemis can report.

Hannover Re is now targeting reduced pricing for its latest catastrophe bond, with the target remaining to secure $100 million  in retrocession covering US and North American peak perils from the 3264 Re Ltd. (Series 2025-2) transaction but its price guidance now lowered, Artemis has learned.

Following the successful completion of its second catastrophe bond, the $50 million Black Kite Re Limited (Series 2025-1), Franz-Josef Hahn, CEO of reinsurer Peak Re, told us the issuance showcases the “tremendous potential” that insurance-linked-securities (ILS) solutions can play in narrowing protection gaps across Asia.
