AXA XL appoints Nancy Bewlay CEO Reinsurance

AXA XL, the commercial insurance and reinsurance operation of the global AXA Group, has appointed Nancy Bewlay as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Reinsurance, as Charles Cooper steps down after more than two decades of service.

Most recently, Bewlay served as Global Chief Underwriting Officer (CUO) at AXA XL, where she was responsible for the company’s underwriting governance, pricing, and P&L globally.

She joined XL Catlin (now AXA XL) in 2017 as the Global CUO of Casualty. She brings more than three decades of industry experience to the role, and earlier in her career, worked at reinsurance giant Swiss Re as Head of Casualty, tasked with leading the carrier’s underwriting and actuarial treaty teams in the U.S. and Canada.

Effective immediately, she takes charge of AXA XL’s Reinsurance operation, which has a global footprint and a strong balance sheet.

Bewlay takes over from Cooper, who has decided to step down after working as a senior executive in the firm’s Reinsurance business for more than 20 years.
