Aspen Insurance Holdings Limited, the Bermuda headquartered insurance and reinsurance underwriter, has announced a range of changes to its senior leadership across underwriting, reinsurance and its Bermuda operation, including adding a new Group CUO role.
The re-organisation was announced internally by Mark Cloutier, Executive Chairman and Group Chief Executive Officer of Aspen Insurance Holdings.
Cloutier explained that the changes are also designed to better align support for both its traditional underwriting and capital market, or third-party capital capabilities.
First, Christian Dunleavy, who served as Chief Underwriting Officer (CUO) of Aspen Re, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and CUO of Aspen Bermuda Limited, is now stepping into a newly created role of Group Chief Underwriting Officer.
Cloutier explained, “In this role, Christian will continue to lead our efforts to deliver against our strategy, leveraging our excellent Underwriting and Market facing teams with the strong capabilities of our Capital Partners business.”
To support Dunleavy, Cloutier also announced a raft of promotions and changes to fill his former positions and to better align divisions.
Andrew Rippert, who joined Aspen this summer as EVP and Head of Mortgage, will now take on the role of Chief Underwriting Officer for Aspen Re, the reinsurance segment of the company.
“Andrew joined us in June with over 20 years’ experience in shaping and building global mortgage insurance and reinsurance businesses and portfolios. His experience at Arch Capital saw him establish and lead a multi-billion dollar mortgage credit business that was preeminent in the market. I am looking forward to working with Andrew in his new role and he also will now join me on the Group ExCo,” Cloutier said.
Next, Beatrice Morley, Aspen’s current Head of Asia Pacific, will transition into the role of Head of International Reinsurance.
“Beatrice has been with Aspen since 2011 when she joined to develop Aspen’s Asian Casualty portfolio. She was appointed Global Product Head of Casualty Reinsurance in 2017 and is also currently Head of APAC. This role will add Zurich to her Singapore and Australia/New Zealand oversight,” Cloutier commented.
Finally, Mark Pickering is being given the role of CEO of Aspen Bermuda Limited, to lead Aspen’s operations on the island, while also continuing to retain his current responsibilities as Group Chief Capital Management Officer and Treasurer.
Cloutier explained, “Mark joined Aspen in 2015 as Group Treasurer and later became CFO and Director of Aspen Bermuda Limited in 2018. He has been invaluable in cultivating our improved relationships with regulators and rating agencies.”
Continuing to say, “I am excited to share this announcement with you, and please join me in congratulating everyone on their new roles and responsibilities.
“Aspen remains well positioned to take advantage of the market conditions as we continue to refine and retool our support functions to match our underwriting and capital markets capabilities.”
