Lockton Re, the reinsurance broking arm of the privately held and independent intermediary, has appointed a new senior Global Chairman in Ross Howard.
Howard is most well-known for having been the Executive Chairman of reinsurance brokerage JLT Re, then becoming the Vice Chairman of Guy Carpenter after the acquisition of JLT by Marsh & McLennan (MMC).
In the role of Global Chairman of Lockton Re, Howard will work alongside the reinsurance brokers’ Global CEO Tim Gardner.
The position will see Howard focused on both Lockton Re’s North American and London based operations and will also see him reunited with long term colleague, Keith Harrison (another former JLT Re executive), who recently took up a position as the CEO of Lockton Re International.
Lockton Re also highlighted a range of recent hires of P&C reinsurance sector specialists today, all taken from rivals JLT Re and Guy Carpenter.
These include Mark Higgins, Lockton Re’s new London-based Head of North American business in London and another ex. JLT Re and Guy Carpenter hire.
Charles Raw, Chairman of the North American division in London, has also joined from Guy Carpenter.
Other senior London-based North American P&C reinsurance hires include Derek Keating (formerly at JLT Re), Fraser Howard (formerly at JLT Re), Tim Jacobs (formerly at JLT Re) and Beckett Hollenbach (formerly at JLT Re), alongside Healthcare leads Simon Mills and Richard Jameson.
International Reinsurance CEO Keith Harrison commented on the hires, “It is very exciting to be working with such a talented group of individuals who have so much combined experience and, given today’s market challenges, are able to provide clients with such in depth knowledge of the specialist Casualty, Workers Compensation, Medical Malpractice and Property reinsurance markets.”
Lockton Re international has also established a new specialty lines unit with the hire of Paul Upton a former Lloyd’s underwriter and reinsurance broker with over 35 years of experience.
Upton will drive the expansion and development of industry-leading capability in specialty lines, such as energy, marine and terrorism reinsurance, working closely with Lockton Re Marine and Energy Head, Jerry Ridge, and the other Lockton Re operating divisions.
