Fidelis Insurance, the specialty insurance and reinsurance firm launched by Richard Brindle, is continuing to build-out its London treaty reinsurance operations with the hiring of Matthew Bellamy from Acapella.
Matthew Bellamy will join Fidelis in London as of November 1st, the latest addition to Fidelis Underwriting Limited’s London team, continuing the build-out of its already established reinsurance pillar.
Bellamy has more than 13 years of underwriting experience, most recently as Head of Property Treaty and Deputy Active Underwriter for Lloyd’s Acapella Syndicate.
Before he joined Acapella in 2014, Bellamy worked as a Specialist Underwriter for Property Treaty reinsurance at Amlin in London.
Commenting on the hire, Rich Coulson, Fidelis Underwriting Limited’s Chief Underwriting Officer, said, “FUL started writing property treaty reinsurance in 2017 and was successful in creating this opportunity outside of the Lloyd’s market. We look forward to having Matt join us to continue to grow our London book.”
Rich Holden, Executive Head of Reinsurance, added, “This is the right time to continue to grow our London reinsurance pillar and am very pleased to have Matt join, bringing his industry knowledge and market relations to the team.”
Bellamy commented on his appointment, “I am excited to join Fidelis and continue to build on Fidelis’ success by further expanding its property treaty reinsurance book in London, complementing Fidelis’ portfolio across the group.”
Fidelis has an active third-party reinsurance capital initiative in Bermuda under the Socium branding, which enables the re/insurer to underwrite business across its platform in excess of its own underwriting appetite and capital, by sharing risks with its third-party investor partners.
The London reinsurance platform, under Fidelis Underwriting Limited, is an important source of risks for the Socium platform.
