Elementum Advisors LLC is the latest ILS fund manager to join the Standards Board for Alternative Investments (SBAI), which seeks to bring hedge fund or alternative investment fund managers and investors together to set standards for the industry, as a signatory.
By signing up as a signatory to the SBAI, independent insurance-linked securities (ILS) and reinsurance linked investment manager Elementum Advisors is demonstrating its commitment to improving the alternative investment industry and commits to the Standards, a code of best practice for alternative investment managers and hedge funds, on a comply-or-explain basis.
Joining is a way to demonstrate an investment managers commitment to standards of practice designed to demonstrate responsible fiduciary duty to investors.
Becoming a signatory to the SBAI will also provide the ILS and catastrophe reinsurance investment manager with access to a network of industry events, and a chance to help shape the standards going forwards, providing input and feedback on initiatives to implement common processes across the sector.
It also allows the manager another way to demonstrate to investors and regulators around the globe that it adopts responsible standards of investment practice.
Additionally, by becoming a signatory Elementum Advisors will be able to provide input to efforts to standardise common processes at alternative investment fund managers in order to make investor due dilligence more efficient.
Elementum has always explained that ILS investments and the firms collateralized catastrophe reinsurance investment offering are institutional by nature, so joining with the other SBAI members to have an input on standards designed to instill best practice in managers will give the firm an ability to learn from and have an influence on the wider alternative investments industry.
Elementum Advisors, which has roughly $3 billion of assets under management and signed up to the SBAI in February, is not the only signatory and the ILS manager joins AlphaCat Managers, Hiscox Re Insurance-Linked Strategies and Nephila Capital as those that have signed up to the Standards Board for Alternative Investments (SBAI).
