African Risk Capacity Ltd., the financial affiliate and parametric insurance underwriting entity of the African Risk Capacity (ARC) Group, has promoted Jackline Muthengi to Chief Underwriting Officer (CUO).
Muthengi has strong actuarial expertise and a deep background across underwriting, reinsurance, pricing, product development, insurance regulation and risk management.
Muthengi has been with African Risk Capacity Ltd. since 2021, and throughout her time at the firm, she has helped strengthen the company’s technical and underwriting capabilities.
She joined the company as Product and Pricing Manager and would serve in that role for two years before being promoted to Head of Actuarial in late 2023.
In this role, she oversaw the company’s technical underwriting strategy and the development of reserving frameworks, while demonstrating expertise in capital modeling methodologies designed to ensure regulatory compliance.
Most recently, Muthengi held the position of Head of Underwriting and Innovation at ARC Ltd., where she played a key role in advancing parametric insurance solutions for climate and disaster risks in emerging markets.
Prior to joining ARC Ltd., Muthengi held actuarial and risk management roles with insurers, an insurance regulator and an insurance technology firm.
As CUO, Muthengi will be accountable for ARC Ltd.’s underwriting portfolio, which covers sovereign parametric insurance for drought, flood, tropical cyclone, and outbreak and epidemic risks, alongside inclusive insurance.
Muthengi will also establish the company’s underwriting strategy, oversee reinsurance placement activities, and report to ARC Ltd.’s Board regarding underwriting performance
