Artemis Bermuda ILS Roundtable 2021

Artemis Bermuda Executive Roundtable 2021

Welcome to Artemis’ sixth Bermuda-focused ILS executive roundtable, which was held virtually for the second time owing to continued travel challenges related to the pandemic.

Leaders and experts from across the ILS and reinsurance sector discussed why fresh investor and startup capital should choose Bermuda.

Despite the impacts of the pandemic, Bermuda attracted a significant amount of startup capital in 2020 ahead of expected reinsurance market firming.

Participants highlighted Bermuda’s robust risk transfer infrastructure, adaptive regulatory environment and ability to innovate, and explored what the island must do to ensure it continues to win new business

Artemis Bermuda ILS Roundtable 2020

Artemis Bermuda Executive Roundtable 2020

Welcome to Artemis’ fifth Bermuda-focused ILS executive roundtable, which owing to restrictions caused by the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, was held virtually.

Against this backdrop, experts and leaders from across the ILS and reinsurance space began by offering some insight into how the Bermuda marketplace has responded to ensure continuity for clients both during the current crisis, and post-pandemic.

Looking forward, roundtable participants offered their views on what Bermuda, its regulatory landscape and ILS community can do to ensure positive market momentum persists.

Artemis Monte Carlo Rendezvous Executive Roundtable 2019

Welcome to the fourth annual Artemis Monte Carlo Reinsurance Rendezvous Roundtable which featured discussions and insights from insurance, reinsurance, and insurance-linked securities (ILS) market participants around a range of industry topics and trends.

In the aftermath of consecutive heavy loss years and subsequent loss creep, which adversely impacted numerous players across the ILS and broader risk transfer sector, the initial discussion focused on the response of the ILS community, investor appetite and the fact that ongoing change across the space is perhaps more cyclical than structural.

Market experts explored demand for proportional business, the desire to give investors more risk and longer-term deals, as well as trigger points, the potential impact of Solvency II, and whether low interest rates will generate increased demand across the space.

Artemis Bermuda Executive Roundtable 2019

Welcome to Artemis’ fourth executive roundtable held in Bermuda.

Against a backdrop of continued loss creep and a lack of fresh capital in the market, the roundtable’s initial conversation focused on pricing conditions in the market and the potential for rate increases.

Participants also looked at how investors were responding to the prolonged period of losses, and highlighted some areas where there was renewed interest and new asset managers looking to enter into the sector.

Bermuda’s position in the market was also a point of discussion, as speakers analysed the BMA’s new regulatory ‘sandbox’ project, and compared it with the schemes developed by some of the other leading ILS jurisdictions.

Artemis Monte Carlo Rendezvous Executive Roundtable 2018

Welcome to the third annual Artemis Monte Carlo Reinsurance Rendezvous Roundtable in which participants discussed the response of the capital markets to 2017 catastrophe events, where ILS growth might come from, and emerging risks such as cyber, as well as other industry trends.

After the trio of Atlantic hurricanes, devastating wildfires in California and two powerful earthquakes in Mexico, the reaction of the ILS space was always going to be a hot industry topic.

Roundtable participants underlined the impressive response of both the investor and sponsor base, suggesting that regardless of potential improvements in other alternative investments, 2018 has shown that allocations to the asset class would be maintained.

Participants were also keen to explore the influence of governments and entities such as the NFIP and FEMA, as well as the potential for parametric trigger structures to broaden the reach of ILS capacity.

Artemis ILS Bermuda Executive Roundtable 2017

Welcome to the third annual Artemis ILS Bermuda Executive Roundtable in which participants discussed a mix of challenges and opportunities for the sector as it continues to expand its remit and push for growth, on the back of an extremely active loss year for sponsors and investors.

Naturally, much of the initial discussion focused on third-quarter 2017 catastrophe losses, what this might mean for the ILS sector in the near- term, and whether post-event market conditions create an opportunity for ILS players.

Comparisons between 2017 and other notable catastrophe loss years, such as 2005 and 2011 were made, and roundtable participants debated the potential for ILS capacity to influence renewals and the expected hard market, in a way not seen before.

Participants were also keen to explore the trapped collateral issue, which has become a hot ILS industry topic in the wake of recent catastrophe losses.

Artemis Monte Carlo Rendezvous Executive Roundtable 2017

Welcome to the second Artemis Monte Carlo Reinsurance Rendezvous Roundtable in which participants discussed the impacts of recent catastrophe events on the insurance-linked securities (ILS) sector’s investor base, and the broader market, as well as emerging trends and challenges as the January renewal season fast approaches.

Following the devastating impacts of hurricanes Harvey and Irma, roundtable participants discussed whether the active 2017 Atlantic hurricane season would be the first real test for the ILS space.

Recent catastrophe events have again brought the lack of insurance penetration in both developed and emerging parts of the world into focus, and ILS industry experts explored the potential for the asset class to expand its remit, providing both protection and revenue, with an added humanitarian element.

Participants were also keen to discuss discipline within the reinsurance market and the potential for new perils such as cyber risks to break into the ILS space.
