Tropical Storm Danny forms; could threaten U.S. east coast

Share

The fourth named Atlantic tropical storm of the 2009 season has formed today in the Atlantic to the east of the Bahamas. Tropical storm Danny is currently moving towards the west-northwest and carrying sustained winds of 45mph with higher gusts. Danny is expected to strengthen over the next few days and could threaten the east coast on Saturday by which time the storm is forecast to have reached hurricane strength. Before it reaches the U.S. Danny is forecast to drop a lot of rain on the Bahamas but won’t hit the islands directly.

There is a good chance that Danny could follow a similar track to hurricane Bill and follow up the coast of the U.S., however forecasts are uncertain as to whether we should expect to see a landfall. Keep up to date by following Danny on our tropical storm season page.
