A quick update on the state of the Atlantic basin. The low I mentioned in my post yesterday has already formed into Tropical Storm Bertha, the second named storm of the season. It’s rare for a storm to form so far east in the Atlantic at this early stage of the season and at the moment it’s uncertain where it will end up although it’s looking likely that it will either miss land altogether or head towards the mid-Atlantic coast, far north of Florida.
Anyway, the storm is likely to intensify over the next few days so keep an eye on our 2008 Tropical Storm Season page (where you can find forecasts and tracking maps for this storm and the season as a whole) and I will update this blog if there is any further news of note.
