TigerRisk hires retro broker Jonathan Hughes from Aon

Risk capital advisory and reinsurance broker TigerRisk Partners LLC has announced the hiring of well-known London market retrocession broker Jonathan Hughes from Aon.

“Jonathan has a wealth of experience being one of the industry’s foremost retrocession specialists,” commented TigerRisk CEO Rod Fox. “He will be an invaluable asset to TigerRisk, and more importantly, our clients.”

Hughes will become a Partner at TigerRisk and will be based out of the firm’s London office.

He will report to Alex Bridges, head of TigerRisk’s Retrocessional reinsurance broking team.

Hughes was most recently a senior broker at Aon specialising in retrocession and other reinsurance protections for Lloyd’s of London syndicates.

Before his time at Aon, Hughes worked as a senior vice president and actuarial lead in London Market Specialty Lines at re/insurer AXIS Capital.

He began career as a junior actuary at reinsurance broker Guy Carpenter, rising to lead the actuarial team at the firm and specialising in the development of mathematical optimisation tools to support and structure reinsurance or retro transactions.

Hughes first entered the industry as an actuarial student at St. Paul Reinsurance Company.

Given the retrocessional focus of Hughes broking career and the capital agnostic approach to placing business that is taken at TigerRisk, Hughes work is likely to involve placing risks with ILS funds and the capital markets on a regular basis.
