Secquaero hires Horley from Swiss Re as life actuary to advise Schroders

Secquaero Advisors Ltd., the Zurich-based specialists in intermediation of insurance and reinsurance risk to the capital markets and exclusive adviser to Schroders ILS investment operations, has hired David Horley from Swiss Re, to the role of Senior Actuary focused on life insurance-linked securities (ILS).

Horley’s appointment follows the launch of the Schroder Life ILS strategy in November last year, a specialist $750 million fund invested in life insurance and reinsurance linked securities (ILS).

Following the life ILS fund launch, it’s clear there would be a need for additional expertise to manage and grow the strategy, leading to the hire of Horley from reinsurance firm Swiss Re.

Secquaero is the exclusive advisor on issues related to origination, structuring and transaction monitoring of ILS related investments for Schroders, hence the hire falling under the Secquaero banner.

Horley had worked for Swiss Re in the UK since 2011, most recently as a key account director focused on providing capital solutions for large insurance groups. Before that he worked as a capital solutions actuary, focused on life capital management and reinsurance structuring.

Horley is now based in Zurich for Secquaero and reports to Scott Mitchell, Head of Life ILS.

Mitchell commented on the hire, “I am delighted that David has decided to join the life ILS team. We continue to see an increasing focus from life insurers and reinsurers on active management of their risks, capital and liquidity. David’s expertise will support further involvement of ILS capital to meet the expanding needs of the life industry.”
