Schroder Secquaero hires Mark Gibson for London-based ILS Solutions role

Schroder Secquaero, the specialist insurance-linked securities (ILS) unit of the global asset management group Schroders, has hired Mark Gibson, a well-known UK based ILS and reinsurance convergence focused executive whose most recent role was at Neon.

Gibson joins Schroder Secquaero on July 1st we can report, taking on a role in ILS Solutions, focusing on Product Development opportunities and other strategic initiatives for the specialist ILS and reinsurance investment manager.

Gibson will be based in London, UK for Schroder Secquaero.

Mark Gibson was most recently Reinsurance and Alternative Capital Director at Neon Underwriting, part of the Great American Insurance Group.

In that role, Gibson took on responsibility for developing Neon’s outwards reinsurance programme and its third-party capital strategy.

Under his watch in that role, Neon launched the very first UK ILS transaction, with its NCM Re (UK PCC) Ltd. collateralised reinsurance sidecar structure.

Prior to Neon, Gibson had worked at Argo Group for five years, as Director of the firms Alternative Risk Markets unit.

In thar role he was intrinsically involved in Argo’s third-party reinsurance capital strategies, including the firm’s Harambee Re collateralized reinsurance sidecars and its catastrophe bond issues under Loma Re.

He has more than 30 years experience in the reinsurance sector, with a focus on alternative markets, collateralized structures and insurance-linked securities (ILS) for more than the last two decades.

Prior to his time at Argo group, Gibson worked at investment bank BNP, structuring capital markets non-life insurance solutions.

Before that he spent 20 years with reinsurance broker Guy Carpenter, leading up to the position of Managing Director of GC Advanced Risk Solutions, their capital markets and alternative risk solutions division at the time.

Gibson is a very experienced hire for Schroder Secquaero and will be a complementary fit for the team there, given his broad knowledge of the full-range of alternative reinsurance capital structures and expertise gained during his career.
