PartnerRe updates P&C reinsurance leadership, adds regional structure

PartnerRe, the Bermuda headquartered global reinsurance firm, has reorganised its property and casualty underwriting division with new leadership and a new regionally focused structure.

PartnerRe logoAlso announced was the departure of current P&C CEO Charles Goldie, who is set to leave the firm. It’s unknown at this time where Goldie will end up.

The P&C reinsurance division at PartnerRe will now be structured into three regions, Americas, Europe, Middle-East and Africa (EMEA) and Asia-Pacific, all of which will report into the CEO Emmanuel Clarke.

Commenting on the change, Clarke said, “We are further evolving our P&C structure. As a result of these changes, P&C will have a flatter organizational structure, further enabling us to increase agility in the way we run our P&C business and customize our approach to our clients and brokers around the world. I will assume direct oversight of the P&C business, including the three P&C business regional units.”

PartnerRe sources risk for third-party and ILS investors using its Lorenz Re collateralized reinsurance sidecar vehicle, which it recently expanded with a new segregated account for the start of 2019.

On the departure of Goldie, Clarke added, “I would like to thank Charlie for his significant contribution to the organization over the past 17 years. Charlie has been an important part of PartnerRe’s success, particularly growing our Specialty business into one of the best portfolios and platforms in the industry. His strategic and intellectual capabilities have made him a valued member of the Executive Leadership Team and I wish him the very best in his next endeavors.”

The new regional units will each have a CEO who will report directly to Clarke and also take a position in the PartnerRe Executive Leadership Team.

The PartnerRe P&C EMEA unit will be led by Philippe Meyenhofer, currently Deputy CEO, P&C and Head of P&C Europe. Meyenhofer has been with PartnerRe since August 2010, holding a variety of leadership positions, most recently leading P&C Europe since July 2016 and then being appointed Deputy CEO, P&C in December 2018.

The Asia-Pacific region of P&C will continue to be led by James Beedle . He keeps his existing roles of Head of P&C Asia-Pacific and CEO of Partner Reinsurance Asia Pte. Ltd., but as part of these changes will assume executive responsibility for the Global Clients and Broker Management unit. Beedle has been with PartnerRe since January 2017, having joined from a Senior Managing Director position at reinsurance broker Willis Re Asia-Pacific.

The Americas unit leader has yet to be named, with a search currently underway for a new hire to fill that executive position for the reinsurer. Until the position is filled, Jon Schriber, Head of Structured Risk North America, will take on responsibility for P&C North America operations.

As well as the regional appointments, PartnerRe has also named Greg Haft as its new CEO for Specialty Lines. Haft has been the Deputy CEO of Specialty Lines since January 2018 and has also been in charge of the Property, Marine and Energy (PME) unit, a role he will also retain alongside the CEO of Specialty risks. Before this, Haft was Head of Global Catastrophe, and Property North America from 2016.

“I am pleased to promote Philippe, James and Greg from within, all strong and capable leaders. Each has been successful in both leading their businesses as well as their teams and I look forward to working with them on the Executive Leadership Team,” Clarke said.
