Markel CATCo promotes Alissa Fredricks to CEO, Bermuda

Reinsurance and retrocession linked asset manager Markel CATCo Investment Management Ltd. has promoted Alissa Fredricks to the newly created role of Chief Executive Officer, Bermuda, which will see her take responsibility for the firms operations on the island.

Fredricks has been with Markel CATCo since May 2016, holding the role of Chief Risk Officer and overseeing the firm’s portfolio and underwriting activity.

As CEO, Bermuda, Fredricks will assume responsibility for Markel CATCo’s operations at its registered offices in Bermuda and also continue with the responsibilities of portfolio and underwriting oversight.

Tony Belisle, Chief Executive Officer of Markel CATCo Investment Management Ltd., commented on the news, “Markel CATCo is expected to grow to approximately $6 billion in 2018, an increase of over 30% in a year. This significant growth has created the opportunity to appoint Alissa who will lead the team on a day-to-day basis.

Before joining Markel CATCo, Fredricks worked at AIR Worldwide as a catastrophe risk modeling consultant for the insurance, reinsurance, and ILS markets.

As CEO of Bermuda, Fredricks will report to Tony Belisle, Chief Executive Officer. Her expanded role will allow Belisle to remain focused on the portfolio strategy and innovation of Markel CATCo’s products.
