Markel CATCo names Watson as new Chief Underwriting Officer

Markel CATCo Investment Management Ltd., the Bermuda headquartered reinsurance and retrocession linked investment and fund manager, has named Lindsay Watson as Chief Underwriting Officer, in line with the firms planned strategy.

Watson joined Markel CATCo in September 2015 and has held the role of Senior Underwriter. Watson has 13 years’ of experience in the U.S., Bermuda and London property casualty reinsurance markets.

Before joining Markel CATCo, Watson spent four years with Amlin in Bermuda, as both underwriter and senior underwriter at Amlin (now MS Amlin). Prior to that, Watson worked at reinsurance broker Guy Carpenter for nine years.

Markel CATCo explained that Graham Wood, Chief Underwriting Officer, has stepped down from the firm today, by mutual agreement.

Wood was one of the founding directors of CATCo Investment Management Ltd., which was recently acquired by insurance, reinsurance and financial services group Markel Corporation.

Tony Belisle, CEO of Markel CATCo Investment Management Ltd., commented on the changes; “Graham’s close management of our client relationships has been immense and I am very grateful for all of his help in building the business to the size it now is. We wish him well on his return to the UK.

“Lindsay has all of the necessary underwriting skills to move the business forward during this next stage of Markel CATCo’s development. Lindsay is already fully immersed in all of the reinsurance business conducted at Markel CATCo and she was brought in originally as part of the underwriting team succession plan.”
