ILS & reinsurance lawyer Angus Duncan joins Hunton & Williams


Angus Duncan, a lawyer with a wealth of experience in the insurance-linked securities (ILS) and collateralised reinsurance space, has moved firms to join law firm Hunton & Williams as a London-based Partner in its Structured Finance and Securitization Practice.

Duncan previously worked as a Partner for a trio of major law firms including most recently Winston & Strawn LLP, prior to which he spent almost twelve years with Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft, before which he worked at Allen & Overy for eleven years.

With over 25 years of experience working on complex structured finance and specialty finance transactions, Duncan has gained expertise in advising on legal issues in on securitizations and financings across a range of assets, including loans, consumer receivables, real estate, hedge fund interests, and ILS or reinsurance.

His experience in ILS markets ranges across the various structures available to ceding companies and investors, including having advised on collateralised reinsurance sidecars, industry loss warranties (ILW) and privately placed ILS transactions.

Duncan has worked on ILS and reinsurance linked securities transactions featuring catastrophe, mortality and longevity risk transfer to investors from the capital markets.

During his career Duncan worked on the first catastrophe bond transaction to feature a tri-partite repo structure, the Eurus II Ltd. catastrophe bond sponsored by German reinsurance firm Hannover Re.
