Hudson Structured supports Bermuda’s Future Leaders

Hudson Structured Capital Management Ltd., the insurance-linked securities (ILS), reinsurance, insurtech and transportation- focused investment manager, is supporting mentorship and leadership development opportunities for young Bermudians through a new partnership.

hudson-structured-capital-management-logoThe investment manager, which undertakes its reinsurance investment activities through its HSCM Bermuda unit based on the island, has entered into a corporate partnership with Future Leaders Bermuda (Future Leaders), a registered Bermuda charity focused on expanding opportunities to young people on the island.

It’s the first corporate partnership that Future Leaders has entered into and the partnership with Hudson Structured (HSCM) means a mentorship and work shadowing program will be launched, as well as a firm-wide day of community service.

HSCM will also add Future Leaders program participants to the managers highly selective Summer Internship program and will serve as a Platinum Sponsor to the Future Leaders program in 2021.

Bernard Opoku, Managing Director and Controller at HSCM and Ryan Robinson Perinchief, Founder & Director of Future Leaders, founded the partnership believing that the lack of Black Bermudians in top leadership roles on the island was in part due to lack of early exposure to Bermuda’s most important industries, of which reinsurance is clearly a significant one.

Future Leaders and HSCM want to create a culture and development program for current executives to train, mentor and grow a new generation of leadership in Bermuda.

“As a Ghanaian raised in London and working in Bermuda, I have witnessed the lack of Black professionals in top leadership roles throughout my life and career,” Opoku explained. “We are so thrilled to launch this partnership with Ryan and the team at Future Leaders to continue to seek to improve that reality.”

“It is truly an honour to partner with HSCM to develop the next generation of Future Leaders in the corporate sector,” added Perinchief. “We believe partnerships like this can help inspire, develop and engage a broad and diverse group of talented young Bermudians.”

Two Future Leaders, Adriana Burchall and Jaiden Furbert-Jacobs, have already been selected for internships at HCSM before this announcement on their own merits.

Furbert-Jacobs is studying for a Bachelor’s in Actuarial Science at Pennsylvania State University while Burchall is studying Actuarial and Data Science at St. John’s University in New York.

The Work Shadow program will give young Bermudians a chance to explore the financial services industry at first-hand, gaining exposure to the cutting edge of reinsurance and investment with HSCM.

Meanwhile, the HSCM Summer Internship Program will give young Bermudians a chance to gain paid work experience as they begin their careers and both Work Shadow Students and Summer Interns will interact with team members of HSCM at all levels across the manager’s range of offices in Bermuda and the US.

It’s good to see this initiative giving back to the Bermudian community, with the opportunities this partnership will provide set to provide students an opportunity to experience the reinsurance and insurance-linked securities (ILS) market at first-hand, with a leading global player.
