Guy Carpenter, the reinsurance broking arm of Marsh & McLennan, has announced two senior hires in Bermuda who join the firm from rival Aon, as well as a number of changes to the leadership structure of its island broking operations.

guy-carpenter-logoGuy Carpenter has hired Robert Johnston and Peter Komposch of Aon’s Reinsurance Solutions division in Bermuda, making Johnston Chairman of Guy Carpenter’s Bermuda operation and Komposch Head of Casualty and Specialty, Bermuda.

Johnston has almost 20 years’ experience working in reinsurance in Bermuda, most recently as President of Aon Reinsurance Solutions in Bermuda. He will report directly to John Trace, CEO of North America, and Kevin Fisher, Chairman of UK and Global Specialties and Chairman of London North America.

Komposch was most recently previously Managing Director of Aon Reinsurance Solutions, Bermuda and will report directly to Robert Johnston and John Fletcher, CEO of Bermuda.

Trace commented on the news, “I am delighted to welcome Robert and Peter to Guy Carpenter. These appointments create an exciting opportunity to further build on our team, significantly increasing Guy Carpenter’s casualty expertise in Bermuda while deepening the connection to Guy Carpenter’s colleagues in North America and London.”

Guy Carpenter said it is investing in its Bermuda operations, seeking to enhance its presence in the market and region and to make the most of growth opportunities that are available.

Two other senior moves also position the Guy Carpenter Bermuda reinsurance platform for further growth.

John Fletcher, who has led the Guy Carpenter team in Bermuda since 2018, has been made CEO of Bermuda, a role in which he will continue to report to James Boyce, CEO of Global Specialties.

Jonathan Ogilvie has been named as Head of Retrocession, Bermuda and Chris Dart has been appointed to Head of Property Treaty, Bermuda, both key roles in reinsurance, retro and of course broking for ILS fund and collateralised markets.

Fisher said, “We see considerable opportunity for growth in Bermuda overall and specifically the casualty sector. By bringing together this exceptional team of broking talent under Robert and John’s leadership we are perfectly positioned to access that potential. Moving forward, we will continue to create market-advancing, client-centric solutions that will serve to boost our service delivery capabilities and help us strengthen existing relationships as well as forge new ones.”
