Elementum hires Ahmed from Axis Re as SVP Underwriting in Bermuda

Elementum Advisors, LLC, the insurance-linked securities (ILS) fund management and collateralised reinsurance underwriter, has made another strategic hire in Bermuda, appointing Shabnam Ahmed as Senior Vice President, Underwriting.

Ahmed has been hired from AXIS Re in Bermuda, where she worked in a specialty property reinsurance underwriting leadership position.

The hiring of Ahmed comes just two months after another key hire and announcement of an addition to the Elementum Executive Committee, which signals the ILS fund manager is building out a platform for growth at this time.

Ahmed’s role at Elementum will see her in a role that is instrumental in underwriting personal and commercial property risks for its investment portfolios, as well as retrocessional reinsurance business with US and global footprints.

Ahmed will also be tasked with providing support to Elementum’s portfolio construction efforts and assisting with the training and education of the next generation of its underwriters.

Ahmed’s most recent role was as Vice President & Head of Specialty Property for Bermuda at Axis Reinsurance.

At AXIS, Ahmed held a variety of responsibilities in underwriting and technical pricing functions.  Before her time at Axis, Ahmed served as Group Actuary in Bermuda for Partner Reinsurance and has also held positions with reinsurance broker Guy Carpenter and consultancy Towers Watson in London during her career.
