Cyber risk modelling company Kovrr has added new insurance, reinsurance and insurance-linked securities (ILS) expertise to its advisory board with the addition of John Butler, Head of Cohen & Company’s U.S. Insurance Asset Management Platform and Global ILS Program.
Butler has worked in the reinsurance and insurance-linked securities (ILS) space during his career and will advise Kovrr on global expansion, providing cyber risk modelling solutions for insurance, reinsurance and risk professionals.
With over 20 years of ILS and reinsurance market experience, Butler brings significant expertise and contacts that will assist Kovrr as it grows its position in the market and enhances its cyber risk modelling services.
“As the cyber insurance market grows and matures, it demands additional capacity. Alternative financial vehicles such as ILS must support this need. Cyber catastrophe bonds will be a major growth driver for both, but productization depends on progressive approaches to modeling portfolio cyber risk,” Butler commented, “Kovrr’s advanced data harvesting and modeling technologies enable the market to financially quantify portfolio cyber risk and provide investors the needed confidence for supporting these products.”

Butler joined fixed income financial services specialists Cohen & Company, LLC in 2017 to develop a U.S. Insurance Asset Management Platform and Global ILS Program.
Prior to that, he was Managing Partner at reinsurance linked and ILS fund investment manager Twelve Capital.
Currently he is also President and Chief Executive Officer of Insurance Acquisition Corp. (NASDAQ: INSU), a so-called blank check company launched in 2019 that will be led by Butler and target acquiring insurance, reinsurance and insurtech operations.
