Cape Analytics helps Nephila Capital analyse property cat exposures

Cape Analytics, a technology firm offering up-to-date structured property data to help insurers and reinsurers, has launched a new cedent portfolio product designed to help reinsurers and ILS fund managers assess their portfolios with greater accuracy and granularity.

The largest investment manager in catastrophe and weather risks is already using the Cape Analytics solution, with Nephila Capital finding the product enables it to better understand its exposures.

Designed specifically for those providing reinsurance, so reinsurers and ILS funds or other collateralized reinsurance providers, the solution offers a way to augment cedents property portfolios with risk-specific data, allowing for increased accuracy of risk assessments and underwriting decisions.

Additionally, the solution fits into a typical reinsurer workflow, with the Cape Analytics product providing them instant, accurate, and objective data at scale about every individual risk in their cedent portfolios.

It gives a more granular view of exposure risk at the portfolio level, and intelligence on data quality for specific cedents.

Cape Analytics’ data solution format plugs directly into leading catastrophe risk models from providers such as AIR and RMS. Reinsurers or ILS fund managers can submit a portfolio to Cape Analytics, which will send back an augmented data set including a delta analysis in less than 24 hours.

The company says that early adopters, of which Nephila Capital is one, have been able to benefit from identification of exposure changes of as much as 15% on a portfolio wide basis, a significant proportion.

For an ILS fund manager such as Nephila Captial which originates and underwrites risk from many sources and many different points in the risk to capital value-chain, being able to analyse portfolios of risk at a granular level is vital and the better the data quality and augmentation, the better the results of analysis.

With risk portfolios consisting of primary to tertiary underwritten exposures it is vital to be able to perform robust analysis of these, to ensure exposures are understood, there is no unknown conflicts between portfolios and that the data accuracy is as high as possible.

Cape Analytics has data on 15 million homes and 90 million data points, across six property data points (including roof condition and characteristics, square footage measurements, and other features such as solar panels and pool enclosures) across the entire southeastern U.S. seaboard.
