Specialty insurance and reinsurance group Brit Ltd. has hired James Drew, previously working at Aviva, as its new Head of Outwards Reinsurance.
Drew moves into the new outwards reinsurance purchasing role at Brit as of July 1st and will be based in London, reporting to Christiern Dart, Group Chief Underwriting Officer.
Drew is a replacement for the soon to retire Reinhard Seitz, the current Head of Outwards Reinsurance at Brit. Seitz will be retiring from Brit towards the end of 2019 and Drew will be working closely with him during a transition period.
In the role, Drew will oversee outward reinsurance purchasing and take responsibility for developing and expanding new and existing reinsurance relationships for Brit.
He has more than two decades of experience in Lloyd’s and the London market, with his most recent role at Aviva also focused on reinsurance purchasing.
The most recent role as Head of Reinsurance at Aviva came after Drew held Head of Reinsurance roles at Insurance Australia Group and Torus Insurance (now Starstone). He began his career underwriting across specialty lines classes including Property Treaty and Marine.

James’ expertise will help us to ensure our approach continues to take advantage of both tried and tested and innovative new structures.”
Drew will no doubt be required to coordinate his purchases of outwards reinsurance along with the third-party capital activities at Brit, the firms sidecar, quota shares and Sussex Capital collateralised reinsurance fund management unit.
As we revealed earlier today, Brit is targeting a doubling of assets for the Sussex Capital unit this year.
