BlueMountain Capital Management hires Al Selius for ILS push

BlueMountain Capital Management, LLC, a diversified alternative asset manager with over $21 billion of assets, has hired well-known insurance-linked investments specialist Al Selius to run its portfolio of insurance and reinsurance linked assets.

BlueMountain is seeking to expand its presence in the insurance-linked investments space, so the hiring of Selius with his years of experience will help the manager to grow its ILS portfolio.

Selius, most recently a portfolio manager for alternative investment giant Pine River Capital, has joined BlueMountain to oversee the firms insurance-linked investments portfolio.

Selius had been with Pine River since 2013, helping the manager to build out a reinsurance and ILS investments strategy. Prior to Pine River, Selius had worked for UBS Investment Bank on structuring and trading ILS instruments.

He had previously been a managing director at Swiss Re Capital Markets, after which he joined ILS and reinsurance investments specialist Securis Investment Partners.

Selius will work from BlueMountain’s New York office, with a focus on asset selection, analysis, underwriting, monitoring, sourcing, and risk management across the asset managers insurance-linked investment portfolio.
