Aspen Re adjusts AsiaPac leadership, hires Macfarlane in London

Aspen Re, the global reinsurance unit of Bermuda headquartered Aspen Insurance Holdings Limited, has announced a number of changes to its global reinsurance leadership, as it seeks to strengthen its team and provide flexibility to employees.

To that end, Philip Hough, most recently Aspen Re’s Head of AsiaPac, is set to return to Zurich after four years living and working in Singapore.

Hough will continue to focus on his role of Global Head of Property, leading the Property reinsurance strategy across Aspen Re’s operations and will continue to report to Christian Dunleavy, Chief Underwriting Officer, Aspen Re and Chief Executive Officer of Aspen Bermuda.

Replacing Hough, Beatrice Morley has been appointed Aspen Re’s Head of AsiaPac.

This is on top of Morley’s other responsibilities as Aspen Re’s Global Head of Casualty.

Morley will continue to be based in the firm’s Singapore office, reporting to Dunleavy and has also has been appointed Chief Executive for the Singapore Branch, subject to MAS approval.

Finally, Aspen Re has also announced the hiring of Nick Macfarlane, who was most recently with Asia Capital Re and joins thee firm’s London office.

Macfarlane joins Aspen Re as Head of Property Treaty (London), reporting to Jamie Lewis, Head of London for Aspen Re.

He was most recently Head of International Treaty at Asia Capital Re and has also held senior underwriting roles at MS Amlin.

Macfarlane will lead the team previously led by Peter Panayi, who is currently on a leave of absence.

Aspen said the appointments are testament to the depth of talent it has and its ability to attract new talent as well.
