Aon Benfield hires Meyenhofer & strengthens Bermuda reinsurance team

Global reinsurance broker and risk capital advisor Aon Benfield has hired Matthias Meyenhofer to become the firms CEO of its Bermuda operations and has made other changes to strengthen its leadership on the island.

The broker said that the expansion of responsibilities and resulting new management structure of its Bermuda reinsurance team will optimise what it sees as increasing opportunities for clients and markets to deploy their capital and expertise on the island.

Matthias Meyenhofer will join the broker as Chief Executive Officer of Aon Benfield Bermuda on September 1st, once he’s served his existing contractual requirements.

Meyenhofer has been hired from his most recent role at broker Guy Carpenter, where he was Head of EMEA Global Clients. He had previously worked for reinsurance firm ACE Tempest Re Europe, where he held the position of Chief Executive Officer and was responsible for all treaty non-life business underwritten from Zurich. Before that he was Vice President and Reinsurance Treaty Underwriter at AXIS Capital, a firm he joined in 2004.

In the other changes announced today, Tony Fox, currently Chairman of Aon Benfield Global ReSpecialty Bermuda, is promoted to the position role of Chairman of Aon Benfield Bermuda, subject to immigration approval.

Also, Jonathan Davies, a member of the Aon Benfield Global ReSpecialty Executive based in London, is set to relocate to Bermuda as of April 1st to take on the role of Head of Aon Benfield Global ReSpecialty Bermuda.
