Aeolus Capital Management Ltd., the Bermuda based reinsurance and insurance-linked securities (ILS) focused investment fund manager, is understood to have hired Stephen Moss, previously of risk modeller RMS, to a newly created role focused on investor analytics.
Stephen Moss was most recently a Director working within the RMS Capital and Resilience Solutions division, where he spent a considerable amount of his time working with ILS funds and investors.
His role saw him working with ceding clients, ranging from insurance and reinsurance companies, to governments and corporates, to help them quantify their risk and identify the best ways to transfer it, with the collateralised markets and ILS among the channels available.
Moss will join Aeolus as Head of Investor Analytics in August and is relocating to Bermuda to take up the role, subject to approval by Bermuda’s Department of Immigration.
Most of his career has been spent at catastrophe risk modelling specialist RMS, with the latter few years focused on delivering client solutions and advice to inform and optimise risk transfer in a capital agnostic manner.
The new role will allow Aeolus to dedicate resource to provision of analytics for its investor base clients, as well as assisting in communicating to investors.
Investor analytics and assisting investors in understanding and interpreting catastrophe risk data/exposures is absolutely key for ILS investment managers and this is somewhere Moss’ role at the firm will add significant value, we’d imagine.
While a significant focus within the asset class has always been placed on provision of analytics to assist with internal portfolio management decisions, the provision of analytics to help investors better understand the asset class and their positions in it is a growing trend.
Moss’ experience and understanding of the ILS asset class, and more broadly of global risk transfer, as well as his work in technology and analytics related roles, will benefit Aeolus greatly.
