  1. Updated: Catastrophe bonds exposed to the Japan earthquake
Unsurprisingly the Tohoku earthquake and tsunami event features heavily in this list of the most read articles. It was our biggest traffic driving story of the year and March 2011 was our highest traffic month ever. This story listing the at risk cat bonds was viewed an amazing 3,500 times.
  2. Reinsurance stock prices hit by Japan earthquake; what about cat bonds?
Another Tohoku event story comes in second, this was actually published on the day of the event while a little information was beginning to merge about the potential impact on the re/insurance and cat bond sectors.

  5. Muteki Ltd. catastrophe bond triggered by Japan earthquake confirmed as total loss
The news emerged that the Muteki cat bond was a total loss after the Tohoku quake. This story was published on 7th May, still nearly two months after the event itself, showing that even parametric cat bonds don’t settle as quickly as you may think.
  6. The catastrophe bond transactions issued during 2010
Our look back at all the cat bond and ILS transactions from 2010. Always a popular article, we’ll be publishing another looking back at 2011’s deals soon.

We covered a number of private cat bond transactions during 2011 and all received a lot of interest.
  11. Mariah Re cat bond at risk due to U.S. tornadoes, placed on CreditWatch
The notification that Mariah Re was at risk due to tornado losses was not so surprising now that you look back at the record breaking severity of the U.S. tornado season during 2011. Every Mariah Re story we’ve run this year has received a lot of views.
  12. Embarcadero Re Ltd., the California Earthquake Authority catastrophe bond comes to market
The CEA returned to the cat bond market in 2011 with Embarcadero Re. We expect to see another deal from them very soon.

Hurricane Irene received a lot of attention due to her forecast path but actually ended up not causing the extensive losses some were predicting.

A privately placed life insurance securitization was well received by investors and the market as a whole.
