Twelve Capital hires Aaron Coates for ILS & debt sourcing role

Share

Swiss headquartered insurance and reinsurance linked asset management firm Twelve Capital has appointed Aaron Coates, previously of Barbican Insurance, to an Executive Director role that will see him focused on sourcing ILS transactions and private debt deals.

Coates has almost 20 years of insurance and reinsurance industry experience, most recently gained at Barbican Insurance the Lloyd’s focused specialist underwriters, where he spent nearly 10 years as Business Group Leader for Property Reinsurance.

At Twelve Capital Coates will take on a role that will lead the sourcing of ILS and collateralised reinsurance transactions for the firms insurance-linked securities (ILS) funds, as well as private debt from the U.S. market for the insurance debt strategies.

In his time at Barbican, Coates focused on the implementation and delivery of an underwriting strategy and the ongoing strategic development of the Property Reinsurance portfolio.

Urs Ramseier, CEO of Twelve Capital, commented on the hire; “We are truly excited to have Aaron joining the firm. Aaron’s extensive knowledge of the insurance industry will further enhance our ability to serve clients across the firm’s insurance debt and ILS portfolios. We are delighted to welcome Aaron to the team.”

Before he was at Barbican, Coates was working in Bermuda with reinsurance firm Montpelier Re assisting in the underwriting of its retrocession portfolio “Blue Ocean Re”. Prior to that, Coates worked at GE Frankona Re, after beginning his career in London with Copenhagen Re in the late 1990s.

Coates appointment fills the sourcing gap left when John Butler left the ILS manager earlier this year.
