Paul Jardine joins risk trading start-up Akinova’s advisory board

Paul Jardine, of Catlin and XL Catlin experience, is the latest senior figure to join the advisory board of digital risk trading insurtech start-up Akinova.

Jardine was most recently the Executive Vice President and Chief Experience Officer of insurance and reinsurance firm XL Catlin, which is now part of AXA XL.

Prior to that he worked for Catlin, having joined the firm in 2001 and become the Chief Executive of its Catlin Syndicate at Lloyd’s in 2003 and eventually Chief Operating Officer of Catlin in 2004.

Jardine had previously worked at PwC forerunner Coopers & Lybrand as a Partner, focused on issues related to the Lloyd’s of London and London insurance or reinsurance market. He began his career as an actuary working for Prudential Assurance Company Limited. He also served for 9 years as the Deputy Chairman of the Council of Lloyd’s.

Akinova said they are proud to have Jardine join their advisory board and look forward to leveraging his experience across strategic leadership, operations, claims, distribution strategy and communications & marketing.

Akinova promises a digital platform for trading insurance and reinsurance risks and is looking to launch with an industry-loss warranty (ILW) type of product.

Details are not abundant on the proposed workings of the platform, its proprietary technology that will control matching of risk and capital, or this launch ILW-like product unfortunately. However the names supporting the initiative are clearly impressive.

Akinova said that Jardine will assist the firm in growing and developing its marketplace using his knowledge of the global insurance and reinsurance market and regulatory environments, as it aims to identify and address marketplace pain points and help to drive market liquidity.
