Occam adds ex-Aon Capital Markets CEO Alan Punter as Non-Exec

Occam Underwriting, the specialty lines-focussed managing general agent (MGA) that was previously known as Sciemus, has appointed Dr Alan Punter, who was formerly the CEO of Aon Capital Markets Ltd. to its Board.

Occam Underwriting recently underwent the rebranding from the previous name of Sciemus, as it set itself up for the future under new management, but still with an ambition to connect capital markets investors with specialty lines of insurance and reinsurance risk.

Among those specialty lines are cyber risk, space risks, energy and other niche but growing classes of insurance or reinsurance, which with an MGA model could be channeled to alternative sources of capital.

Occam announced that Dr Alan Punter is joining its Board as a Non-Executive Director, subject to FCA approval.

Punter had spent 25 years in global insurance and reinsurance broking groups Sedgwick, Alexander & Alexander and then Aon.

At Aon he held the role of Managing Director in the Chairman’s Office, and also CEO of Aon Capital Markets Ltd., which is the unit that preceded the Aon Securities business we know in the insurance-linked securities (ILS) market today.

Punter also has a prolific and highly respected academic career, spanning numerous universities and institutes, including City University Business School, Institute of Mathematics, Royal Statistical Society, Insurance Institute of America and the Judge Business School, University of Cambridge.

He is also an author of books and research articles on risk management, corporate governance, insurance, reinsurance and Insurance-linked securities (ILS).

Currently Punter is a Visiting Professor at Cass Business School, City, University of London, where he lectures on insurance, reinsurance and alternative risk transfer including ILS.
