Independent insurance-linked securities (ILS) and reinsurance linked investment manager Elementum Advisors LLC has announced two promotions within its ILS portfolio investment management team.
Effective 1st Fenruary 2016, Elementum Advisors has promoted Paul Barker to Principal & Portfolio Manager and Chris Cebula to Portfolio Manager, both having been with the firm for a number of years.
The ILS and reinsurance investment manager said that the promotions are “indicative of Elementum’s commitment to internal advancement as it endeavors to build the highest quality institutional asset management firm for the long term.”
Paul Barker has been promoted to Principal & Portfolio Manager, with the firm citing his “demonstrated leadership and the contributions he has made.” Barker joined Elementum as a Catastrophe Modeling Analyst in 2011, before moving to the firm’s Bermuda office in 2014 and transitioning into a portfolio management role with a focus on portfolio construction, hedging, and analysis of collateralized reinsurance investments.
Tony Rettino, Founding Principal & Portfolio Manager, commented on the promotion; “Paul’s commitment and leadership have been instrumental in improving our portfolio construction tools and processes. His efforts across multiple areas have benefited the firm greatly.”
Chris Cebula has been promoted to Portfolio Manager from Portfolio Management Associate. Cebula joined Elementum in 2010 as an Analyst and subsequently became the firm’s primary catastrophe bond trader in October 2013. He has also assumed a lead role in security selection and the firm explained that he has “enhanced Elementum’s trading techniques and tools over recent years.”
“As the principal trader of cat bonds, Chris has identified and executed numerous trade ideas that have generated significant opportunities across Elementum-managed portfolios,” stated John DeCaro, Founding Principal & Portfolio Manager at Elementum.
Both Barker and Cebula have also taken on more public roles representing Elementum Advisors with external stakeholders including investors, intermediaries, and counterparties.
