Elementum Advisors launched as ILS & catastrophe risk focused investment manager

Share

A new investment manager has entered the sector with a promised focus on insurance-linked securities, catastrophe bonds and collateralised reinsurance investment opportunities. The new company called Elementum Advisors is to be based in Chicago and is owned (following what seems to be a management buy out) by well known players in the ILS investment world.

Tony Rettino, John DeCaro and Michael France all have backgrounds from Stark Investments and in the case of Rettino and DeCaro Aon Capital Markets and Cochran Caronia are previous employers. The new firm officially began operations on the 1st December. The three owners are joined by other members of the Stark ILS team in the new venture where they will continue to manage certain former Stark funds.

The focus is very much on the catastrophe market (ILS, bonds and exchange traded derivatives) with, it’s said, little involvement in life or weather derivatives.

Further signs of the health of this market from an investment perspective. It’s good to see established players remaining in the sector and demonstrating their commitment to it by sticking firmly with catastrophe risks.
