The Caribbean Catastrophe Risk Insurance Facility (CCRIF), the catastrophe risk pooling facility who provide parametric based disaster insurance cover to Caribbean countries, has announced the appointment of its first full-time Chief Executive Officer. As of the 1st January 2013, Mr. Isaac Anthony from Saint Lucia, a CCRIF board member of five years takes on the role of CEO.

Mr. Anthony is more than familiar with the workings of the CCRIF having sat on their board for five years. He most recently served as Permanent Secretary, Planning and National Development in the Government of Saint Lucia. Prior to that he held key positions in Saint Lucia such as Accountant General, Registrar of Insurance, Director of Finance and Permanent Secretary, Finance. He also served on the boards of institutions such as the Caribbean Development Bank and the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank.

CCRIF’s Executive Chairman, Mr Milo Pearson commented; “Mr. Anthony brings invaluable experience and insight to this new position which, in part, has been created to address both decision-making and governance issues with a focus on high-quality internal controls to enhance efficiencies and to reduce our financial risk. This is a big part of our efforts to strengthen the sustainability of the Facility as we continue to evolve into a more mature Caribbean institution.”

The release from the CCRIF says that among Mr. Anthony’s first responsibilities will be strengthening relationships between the CCRIF and regional government agencies as well as continuing discussions around the long-awaited CCRIF excess rainfall product. He will also be tasked with exploring how the CCRIF can support capacity development in the region.

Mr Anthony said that he welcomed the challenge of this new position; “I am very excited to be appointed the first full-time Chief Executive Officer of the CCRIF. Having actively collaborated over the years with Ministries of Finance and Planning in the region, donor agencies and other stakeholders, I look forward to working with them in building on the successes of CCRIF and in strengthening disaster risk management in the Caribbean.”
