Markel CATCo Investment Management Ltd., the retrocessional and reinsurance focused investment manager and part of the Markel group of companies, has announced two underwriting promotions within its executive team.
First, Alissa Fredricks, who was first hired by Markel CATCo in May 2016 as a Senior Actuary, has recently been promoted to Chief Risk Officer. Fredricks, formerly of AIR Worldwide, oversees the investment portfolio of Markel CATCo and also has oversight of all underwriting activity. She is based in Bermuda for the firm
Second, Simon Moore has been promoted to Co-Chief Underwriting Officer, alongside Lindsay Watson. Moore joined CATCo Investment Management Ltd. in July 2015, taking on the role of Senior Underwriter. He was previously at reinsurance broker Aon Benfield.
Moore and his fellow Co-CUO Watson will both report to Alissa Fredricks in her new role as Chief Risk Officer for Markel CATCo.
Tony Belisle, Chief Executive Officer of Markel CATCo, commented on the announcement; “Since Markel Corporation acquired CATCo the Company’s assets under management have nearly doubled to $4.3 billion. With their strong analytical and actuarial backgrounds, Simon and Alissa have played a critical part in supporting this rapid growth.
“As senior members of the Markel CATCo team, they will play increasingly important leadership roles during the next stage of the Company’s development. I congratulate them both on their well-deserved promotions.”
Markel CATCo operates and managers a number of reinsurance and retrocessional linked investment funds and strategies, including the London and Bermuda stock exchange-listed retrocession fund the CATCo Reinsurance Opportunities Fund Ltd. Markel acquired reinsurance investments and fund manager CATCo in December 2015.
