Dr. Roger Grenier has joined catastrophe risk modelling specialist AIR Worldwide as a senior vice president and to lead the firms global resilience practice globally, after leaving his most recent role at Liberty Mutual as Director of Catastrophe Research & Development.
AIR said that Grenier would lead its efforts to develop solutions that can help society in its efforts to better prepare for and recover from extreme events.
“I’m extremely excited to join AIR to further develop the company’s public risk strategy,” commented Grenier. “I look forward to assisting governments and nongovernmental organizations to strengthen their emergency management programs and help them prepare for natural and man-made catastrophes before disasters strike.”

The global resilience practice at AIR works to develop solutions to help society prepare for extreme and catastrophic events, help organisations to leverage catastrophe modeling for disaster risk financing to narrow the global protection gap, with to share information and expertise to help society better manage natural hazard risks, and strengthen relationships with regulatory bodies and rating agencies around the globe.
Data from AIR highlights the importance of this work, with a recent study showing that of the average global economic catastrophe losses of USD 345 billion annually less than 20% are insured.
Grenier has 20 years of experience working directly with global risk models. His most recent role saw him working as director of catastrophe research and development at insurer Liberty Mutual, where he developed the Liberty view of catastrophe risk and techniques to analyse non-modelled risks worldwide.
