Daniel Brookman named Head of Alternative Capital at XL Catlin

Daniel Brookman is taking over the role of Head of Alternative Capital at XL Catlin, having been promoted from SVP, Alternative Capital, now stepping up to fill the vacancy left by the recent departure of Craig Wenzel.

The Head of Alternative Capital role at XL Catlin leads alternative reinsurance capital and insurance-linked securities (ILS) initiatives at the firm, driving strategic direction in the use of third-party capital and capital markets structures.

XL Catlin’s goal with alternative capital and ILS is to leverage financial markets techniques alongside its underwriting expertise to develop new products for the companies investors and cedents.

Brookman has been at XL Catlin since early 2016, when he joined the firm as an SVP and coordinated its alternative capital activities in Bermuda, including working to help expand and grow sspecialist Bermuda-based ILS investment fund manager New Ocean Capital Management Ltd.

Prior to his time at XL Catlin, Brookman held the role of Head of Capital Markets at Bermudian reinsurance firm Montpelier Re from 2014 to 2016. Before that he was a Director and Head of Insurance Structuring at Barclays Capital from 2006. Prior to that he worked at reinsurance broker Benfield Advisory on capital markets initiatives and fund-raising.

Brookman brings a wealth of expertise to the Head of Alternative Capital role at XL Catlin as well as continuity, as he knows the product offering and strategy intimately having helped to develop it.

In the new role, Brookman will also be tasked with developing and growing XL Catlin’s relationships with large asset allocators under strategic partnership initiatives.
