Horseshoe Group appoints Garrigan as head of actuarial services

Bermuda-headquartered insurance-linked securities (ILS) management, servicing, transformation and fronting specialists Horseshoe Group, have announced the appointment of Kathy Garrigan as Senior Vice President and Actuary, Head of Consulting Actuarial Services.

In an ILS and reinsurance convergence marketplace where getting closer to the ultimate source of risk is becoming increasingly important, while building portfolios of collateralized reinsurance transactions makes for more complicated valuations, actuarial skills are vital.

Garrigan will be responsible for all pricing and reserving advisory activities for the Horseshoe Group of companies. She will be the primary actuarial contact for the clients of Horseshoe, offering a broad range of actuarial consulting services geared towards captives, insurer and reinsurers, and ILS or reinsurance convergence players.

Garrigan will also lead initiatives to help Horseshoe expand its actuarial service client base, as well as deepening and expanding Horseshoe’s existing client relationships by extending actuarial services to them.

Before joining the Horseshoe Group, Garrigan spent a year consulting for a U.S. based hedge fund that was looking at options to get into the reinsurance space. She spent more than 10 years at Endurance Specialty Holdings in both actuarial and underwriting roles, across both reinsurance and insurance in casualty and property lines of business. Garrigan previously worked at Zurich Re / Converium after beginning her career at Continental Insurance Company.
