James Few’s managed reinsurance fund experience to benefit Amlin

James Few, the new Global Managing Director of Reinsurance at London headquartered insurance and reinsurance firm Amlin, brings with him experience of setting up managed funds operations at his previous employer, which is expected to benefit his new employer.

Announced this morning, James Few has joined Amlin as its Global Managing Director of Reinsurance, effective from 1 August 2015 (subject to regulatory approval).

In his new role Few will be supported by Christian Bieri, leader of Amlin’s Reinsurance business in the EMEA region, as well as Dominic Peters and Robert Wyatt who jointly lead the North American and International reinsurance regions.

Few comes to Amlin from his most recent position as CEO of Aspen Re, as well as having been a founding member of Aspen. He was the principle architect of reinsurer Aspen Re, responsible for $1.2 billion of Gross Written Premium across property, casualty and specialty lines in Europe, Bermuda, the USA, Asia and Latin America.

As well as significant experience in developing a global reinsurance operation, Few also has experience of setting up managed catastrophe and reinsurance fund operations, gained at Aspen. Few oversaw the development of Aspen Capital Markets and also the initial launch of its Silverton Re collateralised reinsurance sidecar.

As such his experience in this are will be a benefit to Amlin, joining the firm not long after it increased its stake in London headquartered ILS investment specialists Leadenhall Capital Partners LLP.

Amlin said that James Few’s experience with the managed fund business would “sits well in the context of Amlin’s initiative with Leadenhall Capital Partners.”
