Horseshoe Group appoints ex-Flagstone exec Brenton Slade as COO

Specialist Bermuda-based insurance-linked securities servicing, management, transformation and fronting firm Horseshoe Group has hired and appointed Brenton Slade, an ex-Flagstone Reinsurance executive, as its Chief Operating Officer.

Slade, a founding member of Flagstone Reinsurance was the Chief Marketing and Capital Markets Officer for the firm between 2005 and 2013, where he was responsible for capital market initiatives including capital structure transactions, insurance-linked securities (ILS), catastrophe bond, and sidecar businesses, all of which Flagstone Re was a recognised innovator in. Slade was also responsible for investor relations, firm-wide marketing and was a member of the Flagstone Re Executive Committee.

“Brent brings extensive knowledge in the insurance convergence space,” said Perez. “We are thrilled to have been able to attract someone of his caliber. Brent has held leadership positions in the reinsurance and alternative investment industry for over 15 years and the two of us will work closely together to bring the Horseshoe Group to the next phase of its development.”

As Chief Operating Officer, Slade will be responsible for leading the Horseshoe Group global business operations as well as focusing on brand strength, day-to-day operations, business development and client service delivery.

In his time at Flagstone Re, Slade assisted in the formation and financing of the reinsurer from start-up through its IPO as well as its ultimate sale to Validus Re. Before joining Flagstone, Slade was an Executive Vice President and Principal of West End Capital Management Limited, a fixed income arbitrage hedge fund and institutional fixed income investment manager.

While at West End, Slade assisted in the creation, management and formation of multiple new products including Rockridge Reinsurance, which has long been considered an innovative and pioneering sidecar/ILS vehicle, combining fixed income arbitrage asset management with reinsurance risk. Slade was previously a Director of West End, Mont Fort Reinsurance, Mont Gele Reinsurance, and Longtail Aviation.
