Global law firm Sutherland Asbill & Brennan LLP has announced the addition of a capital markets partner, Brian G. Barrett who has experience of insurance-linked securities and the alternative reinsurance market, as it continues to build out its insurance and financial services practice in New York.
Barrett was most recently at Goldman Sachs where he focused on financing transactions and served as a Vice President in the Global Liquidity Products group. He brings to Sutherland broad securities and derivatives market experience with property casualty and life insurers, banks, broker-dealers, private funds and U.S. registered investment companies.
Barrett has advised clients on many types of transactions, a number of which are relevant to the ILS and alternative reinsurance market. These include both asset and liability-side transactions; a wide variety of securitizations, financings, derivatives and collateral management transactions; as well as regulatory issues under the Dodd-Frank Act, Basel 3 and U.S. securities laws.
Previously, Barrett gained significant ILS market experience in his time as a Managing Director at HSBC Bank, where he assisted with the development of the insurance linked securities (ILS) business and also led a number of strategic AXXX/XXX life securitization transactions.
