Nephila Capital adds Guy Swayne as firms tenth partner

The largest asset manager in the insurance-linked securities and reinsurance-linked investment space with just over $7.89 billion of insurance-linked assets under management at the firm, Nephila Capital, has grown its senior team by one with the addition of Guy Swayne as a new partner.

Nephila Capital said in a press release today that Guy Swayne was joining the firms global management team to help support its continued growth as the largest asset manager devoted to investment opportunities in natural catastrophe and weather risks.

Guy Swayne will join Nephila as a partner based in its Bermuda offices and with a focus on deal origination, working with both established and new counterparties in need of risk protection. As well as this he will work with the Nephila management team to help shape the firms strategic direction.

Swayne has more than 25 years experience in the insurance and reinsurance business, both on the underwriting and brokerage sides of the market with significant experience at management level. Swayne becomes Nephila’s tenth partner, joining the nine existing partners and an overall team of sixty.

The Nephila management committee said; “We are delighted to welcome Guy to the team. His wealth of experience and knowledge will be great assets to Nephila, and will complement our existing team very well. We are excited to have him on board.”

Guy Swayne added; “I am delighted to be joining Nephila who have been at the forefront of investment management focusing in the reinsurance sector for 15 years. It is exciting to be joining such a strong and proven team.”

In his most recent role, Guy Swayne was an Executive Vice President and member of Flagstone Re’s Executive Committee. Swayne was helped to launch Flagstone Re in 2005, where he focused on global business production, recruitment of talent and managed six of Flagstone’s operations, including their Lloyd’s Agency.

Before Flagstone, Swayne held senior roles at ACE Insurance from 2000-2005 working in Bermuda and London then in 2005 becoming Chief Underwriter (International) for ACE Tempest Re. Swayne began his reinsurance career at John Poland & Co at Lloyd’s in London in 1987,  before moving on to Willis in New York in 1993. Swayne moved to Aon Re in Bermuda in 1996 and was a Senior Vice President and member of Aon Re’s management team. In his senior broker role he worked on the design and placement of reinsurance and capital markets solutions for the Bermuda insurance and reinsurance companies.
