Does the U.S need a national catastrophe insurance scheme?

Share

The call for a national catastrophe insurance scheme for the U.S. is strengthening after the heavy losses incurred this year. This article has been doing the rounds of the press today and raising profile for the cause.

Mississippi however are doing just fine with their improved and modernised wind pool, so perhaps the nation as a whole should take note.

We’re interested to know your thoughts on this subject. Is a national scheme essential or should states follow Mississippi’s example (great article and video from Insurance Journal on this here) and take the best elements of the private market and roll them into their state catastrophe insurance pools? Let us know what you think by voting below and commenting as well.
